Hair Club For Ponies

Let's give that poor bald pony a hair transplant. Directions for retailing are further down the page.

Rehairing is very easy, but also very tedious so get comfortable on the couch and pop in your fave DVD.
HHHHHHHHHHHHH
First, decide how long you want your hair and DOUBLE that length, then cut your pony hair . This is because using the rehairing tool requires that you fold the hair in half. Pull off a section of the cut hair about a half inch in diameter. You don't want to work with too much at once. That can lead to tangles...and swearing. Lay the hair on the arm of the couch over a paint bottle or other roundish object. This makes the hair easier to pick up.
Take a small amount from the hair you're working with. This is called a 'plug'. A plug shouldn't be more than about 20 hairs or so (No, I'm not asking you to count them. lol. I just eyeball it and do fine). The size of the plug depends on the size of the hair holes. You want to go with the smallest possible amount of hair in order to avoid an overly thick head of hair, which will look bad. Basically, this all winds down to practice.

Fold the hair over your left index finger (Or right if you're left handed). Wet the hair just where it touches your finger. This makes the rehairing tool glide better over your skin and lessens the chance that you'll scratch yourself with the business end of the tool (Which I've done more times that I can count).
Slide the longer prong of the tool under the hair, pull the loose ends down and hold them against the tool handle. Line up the long prong with the hole you intend to fill and pop it in (I like to work from the bottom and go up. That way the hair that's already in isn't in your way when you put in the next plug). If you got the amount of hair right you should be able to suspend the pony by that one plug. Repeat many, many times.
Once you are done putting in the hair get your glue and your chopstick. Drizzle glue over the end of the chopstick and then use the chopstick to run the glue over the plug ends on the inside of the head. Leave the pony's head off overnight so it can dry properly. Once it's dry you can pop the head on. All done!

Tails
Take your sculptor's mesh and cut 2 inch long by 1 inch wide strip.
Get your tail hair. First you need to measure how thick the tail needs to be for the size of the tail hole. You need DOUBLE the length of hair you want for the tail. Separate what you think might fit, fold it in half, and twist it tightly. Check it against the size of the hole. If it's too thick or too thin, add or remove hair accordingly. Generally, if it covers the entire hole it's the right thickness.
Get the mesh strip and very carefully (The edges ARE sharp and the CAN poke through your skin) wrap the mesh around the base of the tail. Make sure it's nice and snug.
Squish the mesh flat with your pliers. Once that's done bend the mesh in half and squish it again. This holds the hair in amazingly well. You can brush to your heart's content and it won't come out.
Take your fishing line and fold it in half. Stick the loop through the tail hole until you can pull the loop through the neck hole with your fingers (Make sure you still have the ends of the fishing line sticking out of the tail hole). Take the tail you made and stick it halfway through the loop.

Now comes the fun/sometimes painful part. Pull on the ends of the fishing line till the tail comes out the hole. Sounds simple, but sometimes I've over estimated the amount hair I needed for the tail which makes it VERY stubborn to pull out. If the tail isn't coming through with some basic, firm pulling you'll have to resort to drastic measures. Get a t-shirt (Yes, I said a t-shirt) and wrap a bit of the fabric around your pulling fingers. This makes it so you can apply the needed force to pull the tail through without the fishing line hurting your hand so much. (Note: The shirt isn't shown in the picture so you can clearly see what's going on)
Once you have a hair loop sticking out of the pony's butt pull away the fishing line and you should be able to pull the tail the rest of the way through with your fingers (You'll have to pull a little on each side of the loop to determine which is the side without the mesh).
Once the hair is through the hole you're done! ^_^\/

On to step 4!
